2000 Barge and Truck Mortalities

The four transportation sites, Lower Granite, Little Goose, Lower Monumental and McNary collect barge and truck mortality data from the US Army Corps of Engineers. Barging begins at Lower Granite, with stops at Little Goose and Lower Monumental dams.  All mortalities are reported as happening at Lower Granite since there is no way to determine at which project or sample the morts originated.  Later in the season when McNary is the only operating collector project, mortalities will be attributed to McNary Dam.

NOTE

• Mortalities reported are for dead fish removed from the barge or truck. Only those mortalities found floating at the top of the holding tanks are removed.
• With regard to barge mortalities for chinook sub yearlings and steelhead, it is impossible to positively identify them as hatchery or wild origin because of the following:
  1. Approximately 700,000 unclipped hatchery steelhead were released above Lower Granite Dam.
  2. Approximately 2,000,000 unclipped hatchery subyearling chinook were released above Lower Granite Dam.
  3. Approximately 200,000 wild subyearling chinook were clipped and CWT in the Hanford Reach.
