Historic and Real-time Smolt Transportation Data

Historic and Real-time Smolt Transportation Data

Barges and trucks begin at the highest project (Lower Granite) and stop at the next three dams to pick up more smolts. Little Goose, Lower Granite and Lower Monumental are on the Snake River in Washington. McNary is on the Columbia River at the Washington/Oregon border (see map). Transportation starts 1985, but not all sites had transportation for all years between 1985 and today. Lower Monumental did not begin transporting fish until 1992 when their bypass system was completed. Flow data is available here.

Transportation Query by Site, Species, Date
1. Select Smolt Transportation Site
This will be the site at which the fish are collected and added to the truck/barge.
2. Select Species
3. Select Start Date*  mm/dd 4. Select End Date  mm/dd
5. Select Year LMN began transportation in 1993
6. Select Daily numbers or Grand Total:
7. Submit Request or Reset form

NOTE: Transportation only takes place during specific dates during the smolt migration season. See the Smolt Metadata for a full explanation of the fields returned in this transportation data query. The number bypassed, barged and trucked minus the project mortalities equals the number collected EXCEPT for when the sites were transporting every other day, then the collection count will be recorded each day, but the number transported is only reported every other day. Depending on the date range you choose, the numbers may not add up. If the number transported is too high, try starting the query one day earlier; if the number transported is too low try ending the query one day later. For 1996 and earlier the project mortalities were not reported, and one can assume the difference between the collection count and the transported equals the mortalities.
